Ever since the year 2000, Pantone – an American corporation best known for it’s colour matching system that is used in printing and design services, and a self-proclaimed leading “authority on colour”  – has chosen a colour to represent each year. Each colour reflects current cultural trends and historically influences the future of design, from architecture, interior decor, fashion, food, travel, and eventually popular event trends.

2017 is the year of “Greenery”. Greenery (Pantone 15-0343) signifies beginnings: fresh New Year, healthy food revolutions and growing vegetarian and veganism trends (yes! Go Vegan!) and the environment.

Stay ahead of the trend, and check out some of these ways to use the colour of the year in your next event.Plants.jpg

Plants, Plants Everywhere!

Greenery is exactly what it sounds like! Greenery is the environment, the plants, and the world around us. Use plants like succulents, palm fronds, banana leaves, and other lush tropical plants to bring to life the literal translation of Pantone’s 2017 colour. If you need inspiration on how to incorporate plants into your next event, check out my last 5 Ways to Use article here.

Emerald Jewel Tones

So Pantone’s Greenery colour might be more of a yellowish-green hue, but that doesn’t mean you can’t take another colour for a spin in order to change up your party decor. It just so happens that rich, velvety emerald jewel tones are having a bit of a moment as well, so adding this vibrant hue to an otherwise monotone style colour palette (think blacks, whites and tans) will add some life to the party.

Use emerald coloured couches, cushions or furniture to zing up a sitting area at the party, add some delightful emerald floral touches to your cake, and use emerald striped party wear as well.

Greenery Fresh Drinks

Cucumber is the perfect example of the Pantone colour of the year for 2017 – and as luck would have it, it also makes a refreshing spritzer! Delight your guests with a refreshing drink in an ornate glass drinks dispenser to quench their thirsts.

Top the Cake

A party without cake is just a meeting, so make sure to add the colour of the year to your desserts as well. It doesn’t have to be an overall brightly coloured cake (though it can be!) but you can use the Greenery hue in more subtile ways by brushing it in as a watercolour layer, or evening topping your cake with light green florals.

Cover the Table in Greenery Linens

Greenery is an excellent colour when it comes to events with a softer light –  gender mutual baby showers, weddings, casual birthday parties. Investing in some Greenery coloured linens will provide you with the perfect way to stay on trend all year long.

Think purchasing chair linens, linen tablecloths, or even linen napkins to make sure the Greenery will always have a presence at your table for 2017.
