Sorry I haven’t written for awhile – I have been super busy with heaps of things such as making my save the dates for my wedding! I am proud to announce their completion, and hope you like them too! We were aiming for a Hawaiian wedding, but due to lack of funds and some objection, we changed it to better accommodate everyone. It’s still a beach wedding and we are having a lime and coconut theme, so we decided to do something really unique for the save the dates.
First we got our friend Sophie to make us really cute lime and coconut candles. She runs her own candle making business (she makes candles and melts and cocoa butter too!) called Soy by Sophie and her fragrances smell divine (I highly recommend her Brazilian Rain candles. It’s something that is just so unique!). We picked a cute little jar that would look like an Alice in Wonderland “Drink Me” style jar and in no time at all she had these amazing save the date candles for us! We have a few extra as well to decorate the tables with on the actual wedding day – that way our theme stays strong throughout the whole event (see our lime and coconut themed engagement party as well)!
After the candles were done, Byron at Byron Carr Graphic Design and Multimedia put together a tag to attach to the candle. The idea was to use brown paper to give it that homestyle coconut look and we chose a simple font and design to really focus on the date part. He had this great idea to use a home drawn picture of a coconut and a lime to add that little something extra to the front of the tag!
On the back, Byron added the basic information for what the date was for – location, event and the fact that a formal invitation was to follow. He used the same font as the front, but coloured the brown paper green to add the lime touch to the tags. Once the tags were all printed and hole punched, we tied green and white bakers twine to the tags and then to the candles, and then packaged them in recycled brown paper boxes that we bought from Etsy. Giving out your save the dates has never been so fun!
